German pianist Jens Barnieck has performed in major concert halls and festivals, including the Ravello Festival, Italy, the Kurt Weill Fest at the Konzerthaus Berlin, at Steinway Hall and Cooper Union’s Grand Hall in New York City, the 2 Days and 2 Nights of New Music in Odessa, Ukraine, the festival Roaring Hooves in Mongolia, the North American New Music Festival, Buffalo, at the Almeida Theatre, London, Imagine, Memphis, Tennessee, Ecole Normale Supérieur, Paris, the Bratislava Music Festival, the Heidelberg Piano Week and a Festival for Contemporary Chinese Music, Buffalo, which has been broadcast worldwide by ‹The Voice Of America›, the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Darmstadt, the Bamberg Festival for New Music, and the European Festival Week in Passau, Germany,.
As vocal accompanist, he has appeared with singers such as British Soprano Sarah Leonard, American baritone Kurt Ollmann or with the German Mezzo-Soprano Julia Oesch, with whom he founded the duo ‹Songways›, that won the prize for Lied at the second international competition ‹Debut in Merano›, Italy. With the trombonist Florian Juncker, he founded the ‹Duo Rayon›, that performs contemporary American and European music.
Jens Barnieck was artistic director of a Paul Hindemith Centennial Celebration Festival at the University Buffalo and four times artistic director of a biannual festival ‹ARTlantische Tage›, sponsored by the Atlantic Academy Rhineland-Palatinate in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Over the last years, Jens has also published articles on composers such as Ruth Crawford Seeger, Charles Ives, Mayako Kubo, Misato Mochizuki and Karmella Tsepkolenko.

Jens Barnieck studied at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Detmold with Prof. Gregor Weichert. Masterclasses given by Peter Feuchtwanger, London and Prof. Renate Kretschmar-Fischer, Detmold had major impacts on his education. Thereafter, Jens was invited to study contemporary piano literature with the American pianist and composer Yvar Mikhashoff at the State Univerity of New York at Buffalo, where he received a Masters degree in Musical Performance cum laude. The Cultural Ministery of the German government and the Federal State of Hessen selected him for scholarships at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France and the German Study Center in Venice, Italy.
